Armstrong County First Assistant District Attorney
OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB:
To provide administrative assistance and support to the District Attorney and to present criminal cases in court. The First Assistant District Attorney is the second in command under the District Attorney and is responsible for overseeing all Assistant District Attorneys as well as office staff. First and foremost, the First Assistant is in fact a trial attorney, and as such must possess superior analytical abilities, excellent communication skills, a thorough comprehension of the current state of the law, and a commanding presence in the courtroom. The First Assistant District Attorney additionally is responsible for all duties of Assistant District Attorneys including trying cases and managing case files.
The First Assistant is responsible for the prosecution of all types of misdemeanor and felony criminal offenses and handles all phases of prosecutions from pre-arrest investigation through post-sentencing appeals. The First Assistant also acts as a consultant and advisor to all Assistant District Attorneys, law enforcement officials, probation officers and other service providers in the criminal justice system.
