The Medicaid Fraud Control Section is responsible for investigating and prosecuting individuals, facilities, and entities that provide goods and services reimbursed by Pennsylvania’s Medical Assistance (Medicaid) program and that have committed fraud. Examples of such providers include nursing homes, hospitals, medical supply vendors, medical professionals (physicians, dentists, pharmacists), behavioral health workers, and attendant care workers. The Section also focuses its efforts on fighting the opioid epidemic by investigating and prosecuting physicians who criminally prescribe controlled substances in amounts that are well above recognized medical treatment standards. In addition, this Section investigates and prosecutes Neglect of Care-Dependent Person and Abuse of Care-Dependent Person violations.
