D.A. MARSICO NAMED COMMUNICATIONS CHAIR

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association (PDAA) announced that the association’s executive committee has elected Dauphin County District Attorney Edward M. Marsico, Jr. chair of the association’s communications committee.

“Ed Marsico was a logical, easy choice to lead PDAA’s communications efforts,” said PDAA President and Adams County District Attorney Shawn Wagner. “Throughout the last decade, Ed has played a significant role in our association’s media outreach, public education campaigns and social media engagement. We look forward to his continued leadership in these areas as the association works on issues regarding law enforcement, public safety and the criminal justice system.”

PDAA’s communications committee is one of the association’s three standing committees. The chair of that committee is elected by the executive committee and is responsible for coordinating and implementing the association’s internal and external communications including media relations and public outreach. The PDAA communications committee chair is also a member of the PDAA’s executive committee.

“It is an honor to be selected by my colleagues to work with the media and develop communication channels and platforms on the association’s behalf,” Marsico said. “From Twitter to public education campaigns, I am committed to continuing our association’s efforts to be open, timely and informative.

In addition to serving as communications chair, Marsico is currently fulfilling a one-year term as president of the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Institute, which is the education and training affiliate of the association. He served on PDAA’s executive committee from 2002-2011. In 2009, then vice-president Marsico became president of the association following the untimely death of PDAA President and Erie County District Attorney Brad Foulk. Marsico served as president of the association until July 2011.

Marsico was first elected District Attorney for Dauphin County in November 1999. In addition to successfully prosecuting high profile, difficult cases, his tenure has been noted for instituting a Dauphin County investigative grand jury, making improvements in local child abuse investigations, and being actively engaged in state legislative criminal justice issues and debates. Before he was elected DA, Marsico served as first assistant district attorney and, before that, an assistant district attorney where he handled many homicide and drug prosecutions. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Dauphin County Victim/Witness Assistance Program and the ARC of Dauphin and Lebanon Counties. Marsico is also an adjunct professor at Widener University School of Law and Harrisburg Area Community College.
