Tioga County Assistant District Attorney

Tioga County is a rural county located in North Central Pennsylvania with its northern border of New York State.  It is home to one of the state’s most spectacular natural attractions, The Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.  There is an abundance of outdoor activities in all seasons from hiking, biking, and skiing. It is home to Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania at Mansfield and ample cultural activities at the University or the Deane Center in Wellsboro.   We are within driving distance to cities in New York and in downstate Pennsylvania.

We are currently searching for an attorney to join our team who has a passion for prosecution and is looking for experience in all kinds of criminal cases from summary non-traffic to criminal homicide.  This person will handle cases from preliminary hearing through trial and appeal.

SALARY:  Starting $60,000 newly licensed and reviewed relative to experience

Individual performs legal functions for the County through the office of the District Attorney.

Duties:

  • Responsible for the prosecution of misdemeanor and felony criminal caseload from preliminary hearing through trial and appeal at the direction of the District Attorney.
  • Prepares and argues motions and appeals in the Court of Common Pleas and Appellate Courts.
  • Works closely with law enforcement, the District Attorney in the preparation and prosecution of cases.
  • Advises and counsels civilian and police witnesses, and victims in preparation for trial or pre-trial hearings.
  • Position requires a great deal of independent judgement.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Working Conditions

Office, courthouse and some travel to MDJ Offices. Attorney will be in close proximity to criminal defendants with other law enforcement present.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good knowledge of criminal law and procedure required
  • Ability to receive instruction, guidance and constructive criticism from the District Attorney
  • Ability to speak and write effectively and present clear and logical arguments
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, LEA, and District Attorney
  • Ability to establish sense of trust and confidence with the court, other ADA’s, law enforcement, victims, the District Attorney
  • Tact, good judgement
  • Unquestioned personal and professional integrity

Job Requirements:

  • Graduate of a recognized college or university and from an accredited law school.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening, as required by Tioga County.
  • Licensed to practice law before the Courts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
