PDAA statement on the passing of former Westmoreland County DA John Peck
HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association (PDAA) today released the following statement on the death of former Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck.
“With sadness, we extend our condolences to the family of our colleague, former Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck. Known to many as a mentor and a friend, John served as the voice and advocate for crime victims in Westmoreland County for decades. He started in 1981 as a part-time assistant prosecutor but spent the last 27 years of his career as the elected District Attorney.
John tried thousands of criminal cases, both high profile as well as those that did not always capture headlines. He was not afraid to take on the most difficult cases. But he also took time to advise, guide, and consult with colleagues looking for a fresh perspective. He was well respected for his hard work and generosity with his time.
John was devoted to his job, but also his family and his faith. He will be fondly remembered. We offer our deepest sympathies to his family.”
PDAA Executive Director Kelly Callihan added:
“John Peck was always accessible and willing to help neighboring county district attorneys and his peers across the state with advice and input on a variety of issues. He was dedicated to his work in the courtroom, where he helped countless victims achieve justice, and in his service to the citizens of Westmoreland County and the law enforcement community. He will be missed.”
